Study TitleLowy Institute Poll 2010: Australia and the World - Public Opinion and Foreign Policy
Series NameLowy Institute Poll
Primary InvestigatorFergus Hanson
ADA IDau.edu.anu.ada.ddi.01238
AbstractThe Lowy Institute Poll surveys are designed to capture and track any long-term changes in Australian public opinions on a broad range of foreign policy issues. This is the sixth in the series and repeats many of the questions asked in earlier polls (ADA Study Numbers 01084, 01114, 01126, 01134 and 1158), revealing trends in public opinion on topics including Australia’s involvement in Afghanistan, foreign policy (including attitudes towards other countries, asylum seekers and population size), climate change, and attitudes towards the United States and China. New questions in the 2010 survey cover the Rudd Government’s handling of foreign policy issues during its first term in office, whether Australia should develop nuclear weapons, attitudes towards Indonesia and US power, sanctions against Fiji and the morality of Australia’s foreign policy. Background variables include age group, gender, country of birth and parents' country of birth, language spoken at home, income and highest level of education.
