Series NameLowy Institute Poll
Primary InvestigatorCook, Ivan
ADA IDau.edu.anu.ada.ddi.01114-aust
AbstractThis Lowy Institute Poll is the second of a series of surveys designed to capture Australian opinion on a broad range of foreign policy issues. This poll reports the results of two foreign policy public opinion surveys conducted between 19 June and 6 July 2006, one in Australia and the other in Indonesia. The questions asked fall into three categories: Australian time-series questions; common international questions; and questions on the relationship between Australia and Indonesia. Topics covered by the Australian poll include feelings toward various countries, role of Unites States and United Nations in determining Australia's foreign policy, whether Australia should take an active part in world affairs, quality of relations with various countries, whether various countries act responsibly, influence of various countries, importance of different foreign policy goals, threats to Australian interests, importance of U.S. alliance, U.S. as "world's policeman", role of the U.N., Iran and nuclear weapons, the Iraq war, globalisation, global warming, influence of various countries, Indonesia and its relationship with Australia. Background variables were age, sex, income, education, employment status and language.
